Happy New Year!!!!

I am sitting in my apartment with the lights off catching glimpses of the firecrackers going off all around me welcoming in the New Year. It is a comforting sound. Whatever successes and failures occurred in 2009 are over and the New Year 2010 is officially here. Wow, thank you God! Let's just think about that for a minute. Why? Why do we start over? Time doesn't end. Why don't we just continue counting? That is a good question and I believe there is an answer.

In Genesis the first chapter we find out that God created everything including day and night and the days of the week. v14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years..." The earth had been void and without form then God set up the earth, a mature earth, ready to support all kinds of life and on the sixth day of creation He made man.

Man was not immortal and omnipotent and omniscient like God. Man was a finite created being made as a reflection of God, filled with His breath, formed by His hands and made to be instruments of praise and fellowship. We had limits. God created those limits and provided for our needs before He ever placed us on this earth. What a provider!

Every created thing has limits. A sea can only go so far. A tree can only grow so tall. A building can only hold so many. A glass can only hold so much. Also, man can only work so long and go without food for a short time and grow just so old before we reach our time of death. God graciously created time for us.

In Leviticus chapters 25 and 26 God talked to His people about the Year of Sabbath which was to occur every seven years and the Year of Jubilee which would take place every 50 years. He ordered the Israelites to take every seventh year off. He told them the land needed to rest and replenish so no crops were to be grown. This day and age farmers rotate crops. They found the ground does indeed get depleted of nutrients which are now partially replaced with fertilizer. The ground is a living thing that has generations as seen in Genesis 2:4 and God takes care of all of His creation.

God promised the Israelites that He would provide enough food in the sixth year to supply their needs through the Sabbath year and through the first year after the Sabbath, until the harvest came in. The Israelites had to work for their food since the curse on the ground from Adam and Eve. They knew how hard it was to secure food! They were afraid to trust.

Now think about the gift God was offering them. The men who worked the fields and such, the heads of the home could actually be home. They could spoil their wives, bond with their children and worship in the temple. They could develop deep friendships and hold each other accountable and really be a nation. Yes, there could have been problems but I imagine that they would've had an incentive to work and something to look forward to every seven years. How precious would it be to know that every seven years your load would be lightened and you could see your family? Do you see the incredible grace of God in that? Oh how He truly loves us! God is Jehovah Jireh. He is our provider. It is not what He does but who He is.

The Year of Jubilee was an even greater year. What's greater than a year off? How about a year where your debts are forgiven and every slave could be bought back and returned home? A year of freedom from God! Wow! Talk about a fresh start! That year everyone was provided for and redeemed, given mercy by the hand of the Most High God. Or so, that's how it was supposed to be.

Lamentations 3:21-23 "This I recall to mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness." How different our lives could be if we could learn to trust God on this level! The very God who created a mature earth meant to support us before we were ever created, who built breaks into creation so we could relax and recharge and who made us to have fellowship with Him-THAT God, we need to trust.

If we mess up so badly that we use up every drop of His grace that day, which we cannot do, His mercies are new every morning! Praise God! That God gave us new mornings, new weeks, and yes, new years. Now that is worthy of celebration, fireworks, prayers, tears and hope. Yes, I think that will do nicely.

From my candlelit living room to you-Happy New Year!

To my Gracious God be all the power and the glory, Amen!

God's Mercy Continues

What a wonderful day! God is so very good to me. I had the pleasure of escorting a fellow resident of my apartment community on a job hunt today. She went in to each place, I prayed. She had a critical need and if she didn't come up with a large portion of her back rent today was to be her eviction day. We shared and cried all day.

We were invited to lunch by a friend who has been my partner in ministry for quite some time. She shared my burden for this woman and her children. We exchanged phone calls all day, praying and seeking God's guidance for her. Spent at the end of the day my discouraged neighbor went home still uncertain of her future. Our landlord was holding out hope for the hand of God, encouraged by the concerned phone calls he gave her an extra day. My friend and I agreed to go to our homes and fervently seek God's will in the matter.

A couple of hours and many tears later, God gave me a name of a man we attended church with. I knew this man to be a faithful brother in Christ and though I haven't really done anything like this before, I called him on my neighbors' behalf. I promised God that if He chose to work through people for this need and He gave me a name I would ask for this money. After explaining the situation and the need, the man did what I knew he would. He told me he'd pray about it and asked if he'd see me at service.

I went to my neighbor's home to pick them up for church and she didn't even come to the door. I know what discouragement is. Sometimes you just can't do one more thing. I'd seen this sister hold on all day only to return home "empty handed". I went to church. My Brother in Christ was there and handed me an envelope with a substantial amount of cash in it. My friend felt impressed to relieve some of my neighbors burden, but couldn't give it all. I now held in my hand almost the exact amount of my neighbors' considerable debt. I asked him if it made any difference that someone had already paid some on the debt. He said, "No, isn't it almost completely paid now?" He never even hesitated. God gave him a specific amount and he was faithful in giving. Knowledge of some already given never made him blink. He never doubted what God asked him to do, and he walked away making me promise she'd never know his name.

After this evening service I spoke with my Pastor. He felt impressed that we needed to attempt to tell my neighbor of her lifted burden tonight and to be persistent. We did just that. She was greatly relieved and I know she will sleep tonight. So will I!

My friend and I count ourselves blessed to be witness to God moving in this way. He is so faithful to hear the cries of His people and we should be broken for these situations. We should grieve for one another and bear each others burdens! It was my pleasure to travail in prayer today, to have the time to devote to this and the God-given desire to do it. That was not in me but in the Holy Spirit inside me and my friend and my faithful Brother in Christ. Hebrews 13:3, "Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering." My friends, the thought that we might get this right or we might possibly walk out Romans 13:9 and love our neighbors as ourselves sets our enemy on edge. May it become second nature to us to behave this way.

Dear God, help us this day to become aware of the needs of those who are in our path. Create in us a desire to care and let that desire pass to our children. Your word says that in the last days our love for one another will wax cold. Though we know Your coming is soon, please let our hearts remain broken, for they must if we are to do Your will. May You come upon us in power with a fresh filling of Your Holy Spirit and allow us to minister out of it. Keep us humble and kill our pride. Help us to forsake our needs for theirs because You who are Faithful can supply all our needs according to the riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Your Word says, "Give and it will be given unto you:good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over will be poured into Your lap. For with the same measure you use, it shall be measured to you." Luke 6:38 We need not fear even if we do lack temporarily because of obedience, but count it to Your glory to share in the sufferings of Christ. Amen.

To God be all the glory and the power and the praise, Amen!

"Oh For Grace to Trust Him More..."

God is good all the time, all the time God is good. This is a well know phrase and echo repeated in congregations all over the globe. It is a rally cry to worship and praise. Today, as I write this blog I do not need a rally cry to worship my Lord. I sit here absolutely overcome by His generosity and care.

It is no secret that I haven't worked for some time because I broke my leg and have had a slow recovery. However, God has sent people to take care of me and to provide for me. He has placed me on the heart of others who have not withheld a blessing. He is an awesome God!

Because of His provision for me when someone called this past week with a need I was able to give from my pantry what He had blessed me with. The recipient was concerned for me because I was not working. I assured her that God would take care of me. Although I did not say that lightly I was not prepared for what my God did next. The very next morning someone came with three bags of canned goods and boxed things. What did I get? Much of what I gave, but returned double or more in most cases. I laughed! In fact, I had made this person some chicken soup and I received a can of chicken soup. Pretty awesome display of grace! I was overjoyed.

Just in case I didn't understand, and because He could, today I received another blessing. A sweet lady I used to work with and her husband came to my door bearing a huge box of groceries and several bags of blessings. In these bags and boxes were the remainder of what I had given and then some. Most things were given back with duplicates, some were given back in the same number but bigger containers! I laughed and cried as I unpacked the box and bags and said to God, "No one will believe it! I wish they could see it!" I am so overwhelmed! I called around to see if anyone needed groceries and finally found someone with whom I could share God's abundant gift to me.

The gifts were not just food but also money and a gift card and present. I am absolutely overwhelmed by God's gracious gift. He chose to use people to bless me. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills and all the silver and gold belong to Him. He could've provided for me however He wished, but He chose to use the spirit filled flesh covered beings I have known as friends. Not only do I get to enjoy the provision of my God, but the warm and real touch of a person who gave this gift. He not only sent me gifts, but a hug and fellowship.

I have said it before and I'll say it again, you cannot out give God! "Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."Luke 6:38 I am living proof of that. I say that not to boast in myself, for I am nothing and I own nothing, but I boast in the God who made me and saved me and provides for me today. Won't you trust in Him? If you don't know Him, find Him today, or contact me and I'll help you find Him. If you do know Him and have never trusted Him with your life decisions, your money or your time, please, do it today. I speak from what I know, not from what I've heard. And God will care for you, too.

To God Be the Glory,
Jamie

Grace, Grace, God's Grace...

Can it be that it's been almost a month to the day that I've blogged? I am so sorry! Busy, busy, busy with good things.

I am so very excited to share what's been going on with the ministries. The Ladies Bible study on Tuesdays is on hold for now only because Moms have so many extra responsibilities that we couldn't get our schedules together. But we have many exciting studies to do once the New Year begins.

Our Next Door Bible Study Group is doing great. More material will be loaded onto the Facebook pages so you can study with us. The past few weeks we've been studying through Genesis 25 and took a break in the middle to study Islam vs Christianity, the Koran vs the Bible. One of the young men in our group was Muslim and was saved by grace. He explained what life was like for him and how his father modeled his Muslim faith. His father is a moderate Muslim, yet there was no peace in their lives. He described some very tense moments and his decision to return to Georgia and to live with his Christian mother. He asks for prayers for the rest of his family to know Jesus. It was a very moving testimony. I hope you will check out the Mercy Abounds Facebook page or the Next Door Bible Study Facebook page and join us in our study through Genesis.

The Friday night UP Bible study is just rocking along. We finished volume 2 of the UP Bible Study series featuring Grits, Building 429 and Jessie Daniels. Through the holidays we'll be taking a break. We've watched Pilgrim's Progress which the kids loved, and we'll be watching Facing the Giants this Friday. I was not aware that my Facing the Giants movie had a Bible study with down loadable session sheets. The studies teach some very good principles, once the New Year starts we will begin this study with the kids before returning to Volume 3 of UP. We will be taking our first field trip to the Walk Through Bethlehem and The Next Door Bible Study and U-Turn Ministry members will assist us with their younger brothers and sisters in Christ as guides during the wait and the walk. What an opportunity for the older to teach the younger! I'm very proud of these guys.

Saturday Morning King's Kidz is so much fun! I hate you missed last Saturday. Poor Tracey had seven children to be responsible for herself and their were at least that many from the neighborhood who gathered to hear the Christmas story and decorate my tree. Every time I look at my tree I have to smile. The kids meticulously (as meticulously as 2-13 yr olds can) placed the lights, garland and ornaments and then they proceeded to knock it over! A great time was had by all. We did right the tree but I can't bring myself to redecorate it! It is adorable to me just like it is. We are having a great time talking about the Lord and celebrating His birth.

My Pastor from Green Acres Baptist Church in Warner Robins (www.greenacresbc.com ) has been challenging us to share the gospel this month more than any other because Jesus will be talked about in December more than any other time in the remaining eleven months. I passed this challenge on to the Next Door Bible Study today. I'd like to pass it on to you.

I know that some are hostile toward the mention of Jesus right now, but more are hoping toward that Name this time of year more than any other. There are people who need a miracle now. They need to see the Savior. Won't you share your testimony with someone this month? Tell them of the difference having Christ has made in your life. "Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in His presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honored His Name. "They will be Mine," says the Lord Almighty, "in the day when I make up my treasured possession. I will spare them, just as in compassion a man spares his son who serves him. And you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not." Malachi 3:16-18 What a promise God gives if we will speak of Him! I ask you, won't you tell someone of His love this month? Today?

Thank you for your prayers for these children and please continue to pray for my healing. I am still struggling with walking again. I had hoped by now to have all my strength and range of motion back and that has not happened yet. I will be speaking with the doctor soon to decide what further action to take. Look out for those less fortunate, remember God's fondness for widows, and orphans, and those in need. Again, thank you for everything. If I can do anything for you, please contact me at the email provided.

To God be the glory,
Jamie

Breaking New Ground

I am so excited to share that we have uploaded some Bible Study materials to the Mercy Abounds Facebook page. Now you can study with us if you choose or see some of the material we cover. I am so excited that you can know that we are serious about discipleship and service! What an awesome opportunity for you or someone you know.

We had the best time just discussing Genesis 24 and the servant who was challenged with the task of finding Issac a wife. He was such a wise servant! We talked about the way his obedience and focus on his task showed God's plan. I won't share much more because I hope you see for yourself. But, the good news is God is no respecter of persons. What He's done for one He can do for another. The Israelites crossed over waters on dry ground three times if my count is correct. Why would He not be the same God yesterday, today, and tomorrow? He is not a man that He should lie! The key is relationship and obedience. How I sincerely hope you find such a relationship with Him and by doing so desire obedience which brings about the glorious work so easily seen in your life! May you be blessed by reading and studying His Word.
To God be the glory,
Jamie

From Fear to Fearless

Grace and peace to you! I hope your week has been wonderful!

As always we have had and exciting week at Mercy Abounds. Tuesday Bible Study was awesome. We had a sweet time of prayer afterwards. We studied from "Lessons Learned in the Dark" from Jennifer Rothschild about walking by faith and not by sight. It was a sweet time in the Lord. We had the opportunity to encourage each other to keep walking and trusting God and then we prayed for one another. My sweet friend, a new sister in Christ of only about two months now, was so incredibly filled with the Spirit as she encouraged a sister who had been walking with Jesus for a while but was discouraged. There is nothing on this earth like the excitement of a new Christian as they see God work. I hope I see much more of this! The sister appreciated the lift and we parted ways peacefully filled and exhausted. Wow!

The Next Door Bible Study met and we just shared what God has been doing in our lives, what we were thankful for lately and heard some testimonies. Then we got the surprise of our lives! Dustin called from rehab. This young man had gotten ill some time ago and suffered for so long. We all struggled for so very long in prayer for him. His grandmother, Charlotte, who works with us on Fridays (UP) gave me bracelets today that say, "I prayed for Dusty". Oh what a wonderful gift! We passed the phone around and he asked us for the name of some songs he could be practicing while in rehabilitation so he'd be ready to sing with us when he got out. Dusty had, at the Dr's best guess, a viral brain infection. They still have no proof of anything, and no firm diagnosis has been given. Those of you who know about spiritual warfare can understand that we all battled on a spiritual level for the life of this young man with prayer, fasting, and sharpening each others faith. It was a tough time for all of us. He has a long way to go and we are so glad to have him any way we can get him. It is a miracle he was able to dial the phone and speak with all of us. He was able to remember almost everyone. It was amazing. Next week we will continue with Genesis 24 as planned!

Today was [UP] Bible Study. We had the most incredible time ever! I know I say that every time but it is so very true! We talked about fear again. Building 429 has the song "Fearless" and the band spoke about their troubles and fears. We talked about ours. We talked about being careful what we put into our minds and to avoid sinful things. We talked about fighting fear with scripture and prayer, that scripture memorization was crucial for fighting our fears and that praise was also a weapon of warfare. They learned about Jericho and Joshua. We wrote in the palm of our hand the risks we'd be willing to take for God this next week. Then we discussed that our names, if we are saved, are engraved into the palms of Jesus Christ and we didn't need to fear for nothing can ever take us out of His hands. Let's rehearse Paul's words from the Holy Bible, "For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39. Now that's good stuff! You can't find those promises and the promises be true in any other publication or speech. God's Word is Truth and authority but it is also love and encouragement. God is good! Our laminin is in the shape of a cross, we are unique down to our DNA and we bear the image of God. Amazing!

Well, if this doesn't encourage your heart, friends, I don't know what will. Please pray for us as we continue. Pray especially for the Next Door Bible Study. So many of these young folks are at a crossroad in their lives right now. Pray they will make right decisions and that they will be courageous for Christ in all they do.

Pray also for God's continued provision in my life. I am still not working but am beginning to walk some with a walker and am trying to learn a different trade. God has miraculously provided for me so far and I have no reason to believe that it will end. He hasn't put me in my Promised Land yet so I can earn a wage that will sustain me. Your prayers are much appreciated.

To God be the Glory!

Mercy Reigns

I wish you could all be with us when we meet. We have the best time. Last week was wonderful! Our Tuesday Bible Study was wonderful as you've read. I met several women this last week who expressed an interest in coming on Tuesdays. Praise God for the increase!

The Wednesday Bible study(High School and College) went very well. We studied Genesis 24 and learned a lot about being a good servant. We will begin posting The Next Door Bible Study on line, more to come about that. I learned much this study about serving and walking. God is so gracious. This group's verse is Revelation 3:8 "I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept My Word, and hast not denied My Name." Pastor Mike Winfree (Green Acres Baptist Church) is my accountability partner now with this material as it is from God through my pen. I look forward to being even more challenged with his instruction. Please feel free once the material is on line to invite your friends to print it off and study with us. You can also forward questions to the email address listed on this blog and I'll respond as soon as possible.

The Friday UP Bible study(Middle School) was a BLAST literally! We started off with the most incredible display of a soda fountain ever! A huge three liter root beer just absolutely exploded. It was great fun and I'm still finding it all over the kitchen! Bobby and Charlotte Hutchison(First Baptist Church Centerville) have joined the team on Fridays. God is taking the unique gifts given to each person and pouring it out into the children. We decided to start off each session with questions from the kids about anything. This has worked so far. They are very smart and we are very blessed that God lets us participate in the teaching of His young creations. It is our hope that they all come to the saving knowledge of Christ. Bobby and Charlotte are such a blessing to me personally and such a delight to the kids. Faye Gayton (Green Acres Baptist) will be joining us from time to time and the kids adore her! Please pray for us as we are all learning and being challenged to step out of our comfort zones. These kids challenge us each time and the scriptures tell us, "...be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear." 1 Peter 3:15 Pray with us that the Holy Spirit would direct every answer as we prepare our hearts and attempt to live our daily lives as close to Him as possible.

The King's Kids (Elementary and younger) should be up and running soon. Tracey Kicklighter (Green Acres Baptist), and possibly Tayler Daniels (Christ Chapel) have agreed to help out with King's Kidz on Saturday for the younger kids. We plan on serving breakfast, doing a devotional and a craft or game just to start off their Saturday right!

I cannot tell you how very excited I am to see God working in so many ways all around me! I am so proud to know Him as my Savior and thrilled that I get to help minister to the body of Christ. Would you pray with us for each ministry and continued provision for each one? This is definitely the most important work I've ever done.

To God be the glory!

Mercy Continues...

"Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, just to take Him at His Word..." Amen and Amen! His Word was, "Jamie, do this ministry. Make your home available to these children and teach my Word." As the world pressed in and opposition came, as people accused me of being a liar and questioning whether I was real or not I stopped and asked my Lord, "Is this of You and if it is, do I continue and how? Who will you send to help me?"

In His time He answered, caused people to call and volunteer their time and we prayed and planned and agreed together in the spirit preparing for what God would bring.
We determined to do things with a different approach. Each of us went through our own trying time. The enemy was hot in pursuit of the sweet couple God purposed to help me. Even this very morning they were discouraged in their spirit and had thoughts of not coming tonight! But God in His sovereignty reminded them of the spiritual battle going on and they came. We had passed out fliers and permission slips last week and prayed God would bring just the ones He wanted to come. We prayed together as the food cooked and final preparations were made.

Five precious children came. We ate, said an opening prayer and read Joshua 6. Then God opened the mouths and minds of these 11, 12 and 13 yr olds and the questions began. These precious children began to fire off a myriad of questions, some simple, some theological and profound. It was every Christian leaders' dream! They listened and soaked in the answers given and then asked more. "Who wrote the Bible and how do we know?" "How do you know you're saved?" "Does God put different spirits in different people?" "Is Satan still roaming the earth?" "Can an evil spirit possess you?" "Is it okay to watch Vampire movies if I know they're not real because I like them?" They asked questions about other religions and so on. One after another they rolled out, each leader taking a turn at answering and the Holy Spirit putting together a concert of Truth! Each leader confirming the teaching of the other and it was incredible! God used the talents of each leader in one setting. The kids were open and unafraid to ask questions. It was so exciting to share with these kids! I saw the faces of the other leaders were just shining with encouragement as if to say, "Ask me more!"

Two hours had passed, because we had promised parents we would stop at 8pm, we prayed once more for these precious little ones and after hugs and parting words, they went to their own homes and we celebrated the goodness of God! It was impossible to relive all the Truth spoken and scriptures shared, we couldn't possibly remember everything but we knew that God had confirmed that we were to serve these children. There was no way any person could inspire that excitement or enthusiasm. There was no prompting from leaders. We just broke bread and opened the Word of God. We had printed study guides but we never even made it to the intended materials or video, God through His Holy Spirit had another idea. We just enjoyed the opportunity to pour into these little ones. What a mighty God we serve.

"And I, if I be lifted up from the earth will draw all men unto Me." John 12:32. Jesus was speaking of His crucifixion and how once His physical body had died, His Glory would be revealed in the Spirit. That Spirit which had defeated death could now dwell in us and He truly does draw men to Himself. When we lift Him up in praise, adoration, and in teaching and when we live out His truths, He reveals Himself to those who have eyes to see and ears to hear. We scatter the seed of Truth to everyone we can, praying it falls on prepared ground for the day is coming when every knee shall bow!

Dear Jesus, help us to be immediately obedient. Thank You that You care so much about these little ones, some who cannot get to church on their own and whose families do not follow You that You send laborers unto them! Oh You are a merciful, loving and kind God. Thank You for allowing us to help You and encouraging us by witnessing the drawing of these little ones. God, I pray that You protect them with Your Holy Spirit. Send angels to guard them and keep them. Lord, show Yourself to them in everything, cause them to think of You constantly. Jesus I pray for their salvation, for the redemption of their souls. They don't deserve it and neither did I but You saved me. Save them I pray, In Jesus' Name. Amen.

Please pray for this ministry. Pray that God allows us to continue to reach out to these kids and that His Word would not return void, just as He said, but that it would sink deep into the hearts of these kids and deliver them from a life of sin. What a mighty God we serve!

To God be the glory!

Abiding in Mercy

It seems like forever since I've written. Sometimes in ministry and in life we have to pause and let the Creator take the reigns. I've been going through a time of pruning and reaffirmation. Whenever sin enters in via some vehicle you have to know that God allows these times of testing. My goal is to investigate all the avenues of ministry and allow God to show me again my goals and what doors need to be open and what doors need to be shut. To be in ministry you want to glorify God in all you do. When you go into the mission field, you risk being hurt by the very enemy you fight, but we must go.

God has absolutely heard my cry and as instructed to do by my Pastor I am allowing God to open the ministries as He sees fit. We stopped some ministries for a while in order to try to better serve those we do serve. The King's Kids on Saturdays and UP Bible Study on Fridays are on hold until we get some things in place. Should be back on track this week, God willing.
The Next Door Bible Study will not meet next week as we are in prayer as to what God wants to do with that particular ministry. We talked last week about Abraham and Isaac and giving God our Isaacs. We will be praying for each persons' role in the Bible study and where we go from here. It's been four years now. WOW!

I welcome God's provision and His guiding. After all, everything we do is for Him. I thank Him for the way He's answered some things, causing people to call me unsolicited to offer help. That's my God!

Please be in prayer as we try to put things in place. Pray for the kids. Pray for the ones God has burdened for these kids. It's His plan, we are just the vessels. Be looking for updates!
To God be the glory!

It Will Not Be Unredeemed

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfGbcjCVDOs

I've been dealing with some very distressing issues of sin seemingly everywhere I turn. It is hard enough to deal with your own, but sometimes we have to deal with the sin or "issues" of others as well; some because we need to, others because God commands us to in the shoring up of the Saints. Some sin comes our way quite uninvited and unwelcomed forced on our lives by the unexplained and it leads to tragedy. God help us!

However we encounter the enemy of God, it can leave us damaged. God woke me up this morning to pray. I've been praying over this ministry, family, friends, those who I minister to and those who are sick. It is a welcome burden, but sometimes you need added strength. God took me to K Love Internet radio and immediately to a song I'd never heard. One of my favorite groups, Selah, sings "Unredeemed". Both one of the singers and his sister lost a child within six months of each other. I cannot imagine how he would have the strength to sing this song save the incredible grace of a Holy God whose might and care perfectly balance this universe.

I hope you will listen to the song and be blessed. I also implore you to pray. The Bible tells us to pray. "Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to You while You may be found; surely when the waters rise, they will not reach him. You are my hiding place; You will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance." Psalm 32:6,7 While we may hurt, we will not be overwhelmed forever. We will be held in the hand of a mighty God whose mercy abounds toward us and we will live to sing again.

While you are praying would you commit to pray for this ministry and those we touch? They are for the most part lost children who need salvation. They are confused and it will take investing in their lives with the consistent delivery of the Word of God for salvation and discipleship. Help me in this, please, I cannot do it alone. The enemy has been working hard against this ministry and I know God has placed me here for such a time as this. It is worth it. It is worth it and it will not be unredeemed. Your comments are invited and appreciated. God bless you!

Getting a jump on the week today. Making copies for the UP Bible study on Friday and making notes for the Ladies' Bible study on Thursday. I will work on my AWANA verses and the Wednesday Bible study lesson shortly, we will be covering Genesis 21. It will be a very busy week this week and the next few weeks to come.

I've been thinking some about help lately. Last week in Genesis we discussed the way God helped Lot and how many times He helped Lot. The angels coming to rescue he and his family literally laid hands on them and pulled them out of Sodom. He'd been saved when his father died-he was looked out after by his grandfather, Terah. Then when his grandfather died, Abram became his guardian, and in the Valley of the kings Abram fought for he and his family. The angels rescued him from the crowd that pressed in on him. God had this man and was keeping him safe for Abraham's sake. Wow! Now, that's what I call help. That's what I'm going to need for the next few weeks. Real help.

My favorite Psalm 121 talks about where our help comes from and it is certainly true for me. "...My help comes from the Lord God, maker of Heaven and earth." Where does your help come from? Think about that. Where is your fear default set? Do you call your parents or your best friend? What about your husband or wife when you are afraid, do you call them? As a Christian your first cry should be to the One who can do something about it, Jesus Christ. How do we make sure His is the first Name we call on? By so saturating ourselves with His presence that it just is a reflex.

My favorite pastor talks about muscle memory and how athletes learn to throw a basketball by practice, so much practice that the muscles remember the shot even when the athlete is stressed, likewise you pray so much your mind remembers that even in stressful times. It becomes a reflex. There is the pathway example. You walk a certain route in your home or yard so much that the carpet or grass is worn in that path. You go to God so much that there's a path that leads straight to Him in your mind. We know all these things but some of us don't do them.

We have a need for human fellowship so in times of pain we reach out to those who can reach back. But, most people have no wisdom and even if they are Christians their default might not be set to Jesus either. Oh friends! If we reach to God first He can send the wisdom through His word or through someone He puts in your path who will have His wisdom. But, if we bypass Him, we often get worldly empathy and not mercy from the Creator God. He is help. He's Psalm 23 kind of help! That verse is not for the dead but for the living!

Let me encourage you to call on God this week. Let Him comfort you. He is the one who created you placing every hair on your head. He is the One who gives you armor to stand in. He is the One-Jehovah Jireh, Shammah, Nissi, Sabbaoth and so much more. "They that call upon the Lord shall be saved." Acts 2:21. Friends if He can save your spirit from hell, He can provide safety from your enemy, money for gas, healing for your heart and body and He can send you real help! That's what I need and I will call upon the Name of the Lord. How about you?

To God be the glory!

Truth Will Set You Free

Wow! Truth is a liberating thing, once you find it. This world is so backwards that we often don't even know we are deceived, just as the enemy has planned. It takes so little effort to believe a lie, and so much to free yourself from it.

Why do we need truth? Because lies lead to sin and ,"The wages of sin is death," Romans 3:23. We need truth, we need God's Word because His Word is life. Oh, friends! We need to live to the glory of God! The Bible is an instruction manual on "how to". We need to know how to live. "Jesus answered, It is written, 'Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God, doth man live." Take a guess who Jesus was answering. That's right! The very father of lies himself, Satan, as he tried to tempt Jesus to turn stones to bread. Could He have done this? Of course, but He was not under the direction or authority of Satan's guidance or suggestion. It seemed logical to feed himself if He had the power, but His power in the flesh of man was not to serve Himself or Satan but to serve God alone. Jesus knew in His earthly form that He could only survive under the direction of God. He would not repeat Adam and Eve's disobedience. What an awesome example. God is so good to us!

As we, the Ladies' Bible study group, go deeper into the study of "Lies Women Believe" and the truth that sets you free...I know we will uncover even more of the depth of deception that truly binds us. We were not designed to be bound by sin. We function fully in freedom.

My favorite pastor, Johnny Ellison, once described us as a train. He said that we as Christians are spirit beings. We were meant to operate under the power of the Holy Spirit. He explained that just as trains are made to travel on a track and can go anywhere that track is laid, and go forwards, backwards, do loops (roller coasters), etc that so we can function in the Spirit of God. But just as a train can go nowhere when it is derailed, and becomes a fantastic mess as cars are piled up and overturned, so our life becomes if we try to function outside the Holy Spirit's direction and power. I have never forgotten those words because they ring so true for me, because I need so much the direction of the Spirit not to sin.

There is so much yet to learn and so much deception to uncover and deal with. We must deal with sin and pain and unbelief so that God can make us a clean vessel to minister through and so we can be ready to receive His blessings.

It is my prayer that this week you will begin to ask God, also, to examine your heart and to show you areas that have not yet been dealt with. This is for our good that God not allow us to remain in a state of deception and disobedience. May He give you strength to trust Him more and more for your life and your freedom to enjoy the life He gives. I love you all so much!

To God be the glory,
Jamie

King's Kids

Wow! What a morning! I didn't want to get up but I did and I'm so very glad. I got to serve 4 of the most beautiful children this morning!

We had our first King's Kids. I made some blueberry and strawberry muffins and we had a drink of the Word. We talked about Noah and the flood. They had never heard the story of the rainbow. You should've seen the smiles when they realized the rainbow is God's visible seal of promise.

I cannot tell you how I love that! I love to teach and see the dawning of Reason appear on these children's faces. When they "get it". My goodness, THAT is good! God is Good. How I thank God for the gift of teaching. I may not be able to draw, or do just about anything else, but I can teach. Not through my own strength, but through God's. It's a twofold miracle. He opens my mouth and opens their ears! Jesus said,"But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." John 12:32. All we do is provide a vessel for Him to work through. He, who made man and made them to think, gives us the knowledge.

I thank God that though we are cracked and chipped pots, that He makes us over. He takes what we have and gives us worth beyond human comprehension. The Master's touch. Praise God for His unspeakable Gift, the gift of Jesus Christ; Who makes us worth something, Who redeemed our lost souls and Who is jealous for us and desires fellowship with us. Who among men can understand it? I am so grateful.

Judgement and Grace

I apologize for there being such a long time since the last post. So many things have been happening and we're preparing for more!

The Next Door Bible Study met yesterday and we studied Genesis 19-the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Although some things are very unpleasant to even discuss we have to know what God's opinion is which is why we have a Bible. Our world today is just about the polar opposite of what God expects of mankind. It was an interesting time.

One question from the discussion text came from Lot's wife looking back just as she was instructed not to do. She met her end that day. We discussed the problem with starting on the right road and looking back to sin. What makes us turn back? Some of the answers are that we miss the sin-it's fun for the moment. We may have a fear of the unknown, even when it's God leading. Maybe it's rebellion because we are forced to do something we aren't ready to do or don't want to do even if it may save our life. Whatever the case, there is a time that comes when God will turn mankind over to their desires which will destroy them, "For the wages of sin is death" Romans 6:23 and "For although they knew God they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator-Who is forever praised. Amen." Romans 1:21-25.

We discussed the fact that we do not understand the extent of our decisions. We don't understand the good that God can do through one obedient person, one example is Abram who became Abraham. He had much less of God's word and fewer demonstrations of God's great love and yet he trusted God.

We also do not understand the extent of our decision to sin and the Pandora's Box that opens. The sin that is so fun at the moment can lead to permanent damage done. Sodom and Gomorrah's sin and judgement literally, according to the Bible (Genesis 13:10) changed the landscape of the land. Our sin can change the landscape of our lives. A person addicted to drugs can break an entire family. A spouse's affair can leave children in a single parent home. Gambling can cause families to lose everything. The list goes on and on. Sin has an unquenchable appetite, there is no bottom to the pit, no cap on the limit and if we persist in it, God will allow the sin the destroy us.

BUT GOD, I love those words, in His wisdom, knew we needed grace and it is just a prayer away. When we are faced with the consequences of our sin we have a God who is just waiting for us to admit our failure and ask for forgiveness which He promises to give. Because God cannot lie, because He is truth, He will forgive. What an amazing God we serve! That knowledge comforts me when nothing else can. The Creator of all, who knows me far better than anyone ever could, than anyone will ever know me; who placed every hair on my head knew every sin I have committed, would commit, and will commit in the future and died for me anyway. He saw value in this unformed, spark of an idea and made me His own handiwork, His poem, according to Ephesians. I didn't then and don't now deserve it. It's all because of His grace. I am so thankful for His grace. He did the same the day He saved you, too.

I don't know where you are in your walk today. I don't even know if you are saved-that you have a relationship with Jesus Christ. If you don't, please understand that these promises of God cannot apply to you as long as you stand opposed to Him as His enemy. Please ask God for forgiveness and accept Him as the Lord of your life. But if you are saved today and fighting for peace, fall into the grace of God. Forgive yourself, forgive others and ask God to repair and remake the damage done. You may never see healing on this earth in certain situations, but once we all get to Heaven, all truth will be known. We will see everything that we couldn't say right, we'll see the love that's been hidden behind scars and lies. We will be healed. Praise God, we will be whole.

Please pray for the Ladies Bible study to begin next Thursday here. We will be studying "Lies Women Believe and The Truth That Sets Them Free" by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. I can't wait! Pray for the ladies who will come to be set free of the lies and bondage that holds them captive.
Thank you for supporting me and praying with me. By the way, the drug dealers that lived across the street from me and tormented the kids have been evicted and not seen since. Praise God for answered prayers!

Will Wonders Ever Cease? I Hope Not...

I've been praying specifically about a few things, including the direction of this ministry and what God wanted me to do regarding the kids, ladies' Bible study, etc. Even what to blog about. Boy, God sure does love a specific prayer!

Tonight, my neighbor across the street came to see me. I knew when I saw her she was special and God has knit our hearts together. She told me she had to speak with me and began to tell me how God was working in her heart and on her. She told me a wonderful story of a ministry God has laid on her heart and a specific way of funding it. I just grinned and told her to share that part again. It was confirmation of something God told me prior to the Easter Egg Hunt we had this year. Something specific about how something would work. I know what He said, Faye, my ministry partner was with me and said, "One thing at a time!", because I was so overwhelmed at what God was showing me He wanted to do! I saw the same look on my new friend's face tonight. I was very proud and excited.

This sweet soul is so new to the faith, just surrendering herself yesterday! God has brought her here for a specific purpose and she told me, "From the minute I got here He started speaking to me and He hasn't stopped yet!" We shared giggles and tears. Please pray for my friend.

This new ministry is just in the prayer stages and I ask you, in the Name of Jesus, cover us with prayer. God has something specific for this city. We've been faithful to pray and He is being faithful to answer. Now, stay the course and lets see what He will do! This lady has a testimony that will certainly change hearts and minds with God's help. He is bringing laborers for the harvest. Are you ready to receive them into the family?

If you haven't shared the gospel with anyone lately, I encourage you to study up! The Bible says that ,"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness..." 2 Timothy 3:16, and use what you know-what God gave you. Your testimony. One of my pastors strongly recommends that you write out your testimony, or how you came to know Christ and what He's done in your life, and then try to condense it down to three minutes. That's about how long someone will listen to you.

If you've never shared the gospel but would like to there are many witnessing tools to try. You can try the ABC approach which is listed on this blog site-just click to see, or you can use the Roman Road or whatever you've been taught. I will list a few scriptures you can use below or feel free to call Green Acres Baptist or any other local Bible believing church. If the person answering the phone cannot tell you how to lead someone to Christ-try another church! Or you can write to me at the address on this blog or send me an email at jamiethompsonministries@yahoo.com and I will surely reply as quickly as possible. I check my email every day. Again, see the scriptures listed below and may God bless you in your efforts to "be always ready to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear..." 1 Peter 3:15.
To God be the glory,
Jamie

Romans 3:23
Romans 5:8 Use all these scriptures in order, you can highlight them in your Bible with
Romans 6:23 colored pencils and have the person you witness to read them if you don't
John 3:16 want to read aloud. God's Word will not return void. You will plant a seed
even if they don't appear to accept it right away.

God Bless You!!!!!!!

Growing Pains...

Do you remember being young and having growing pains? Your stomach or legs hurt for "no" reason? It was simply your body doing what it was supposed to do-grow. One of my favorite pastors, Johnny Ellison, Green Acres Baptist Church, said this about growth and rebirth, "In order for something to grow... something must first die. A seed has to break open to grow a tree. We must die to ourselves in order for spiritual growth to occur." Isn't that true!

I am seeing God bring a harvest of new, unchurched people and I don't have enough room in my apartment or car. My church is scrambling to absorb them with excellence, we are meeting to decide strategies for the new things God is doing. We are having to die to the old "way" of doing things, the old plans, the old thoughts we might have had. I need to die even more daily because I think I need a van and a two or three bedroom apartment and I still have no job and can't work because I can't walk due to my injury. I am only a spectator (remember my Shepard "broke" my leg...) watching God do His thing. I cannot see how the puzzle is going to fit together. But praise God- Matthew 21:44 says, "And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken..." Break us again God! That was His plan all along! Help us to fall on You in dependence and humility.

Growth is such a blessing! The problem is in our limited vision of what God wants to do. We don't even have a firm grasp of what God has done in us yet, much less what He's willing to do through us for His glory. We just have to roll out the red carpet with Christ-like mercy and grace and then get in the position to receive orders, much like a catcher crouched with glove ready, on our knees reaching out.

Growth is not easy, please don't misunderstand me as though I am making light of all the concerns that come with the responsibility of new souls to guide and disciple. Oh no, quite the contrary! Again, Jesus shows us what this costs when He said at the last supper, 1 Corin. 12:24 "... this is My body, which is broken for you..." In order for us to live and grow and overcome sin, Jesus Himself was broken. What an amazing consideration! Let us meditate these next days on what growing pains really are-Jesus took them for us! Now we line up with Him in the death of our will, broken vessels, to intercede for these in fervent prayer that they come to know Him as Savior and Lord. Waiting for His instruction on the details.

Would you pray with us that God gives us instruction and wisdom to deal with the new souls we are entrusted with? Pray that we are all blessed in the reconstruction of ourselves! Grace and peace to you these next days.
To God Be the Glory,
Jamie

All Are Learning...

We did survive! We invited those who who we feared to gather with us around God's word. We waited and fellowshiped. We brought extra chairs and the pastor was ready to give his testimony, we opened the door for them and they did not come in. They turned and went back home.

Glory to God! If He wanted them to come in, they would've.

They, the dealers, intimidators and haters of God returned the next day. I invited them to leave three times, they did not. The children were afraid and would not let me help them. But the young men did hear several verses recited. Psalm 25:4 "Show me Thy ways, O Lord, teach me Thy paths." Romans 6:23 "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." and several others. I was glad they heard, the seed was planted, but they insisted on interrupting and didn't receive the word.

They finally left after I had opportunity to share some from 1 John 4. I explained that God is love and if we don't have God we can't love. That love is a command, not a feeling. If it changes it is not real because God is love and doesn't change and He is most definitely real. They had been talking about falling in love with some of the girls in my home and didn't seem to like that although they did consider it. They weren't allowed in my home yesterday and didn't attempt to come today. I spoke with someone from my church who will talk to some men about trying to reach out to them. One young man did take a Bible. Pray he reads it and that God gets hold of them all. My priority has to be for the ones who will receive and those little ones God has charged to my care. I cannot manage those who would harm us in anyway or interrupt these kid's learning. It is not wise. I am still learning this ministry. God is helping me walk it out. I am reaching out for help from those who have more wisdom. Pray they school me in street knowledge.

Today was a sweet time with the kids. Several of the Next Door Bible Study Group came to see me to hang out and help with computer stuff. There was a little time before the others came. We had a very good time discussing verses and encouraging each other to learn them. We also had a very teachable moment. My older kids helped us to have a quiet time of prayer and reflection. We listened to music selected by the older and they led off in prayer. The younger kids bowed with us as we prayed for them each and their families and they in turn offered prayers as best they knew how.

I taught them that Jesus stole away to pray privately and that we should follow His example. They learned that God gave them each their own voice and that is how He wanted them to pray, in their own words and voice. We talked about learning scripture and praying back the promises God said we could have. We talked about meditating on scripture. We encouraged this small band of new believers to talk to God like you would your best friend. They seemed to take it all in.

What a sweet, unexpected and teachable moment! I know soon I will have to work out a schedule, it is going to be necessary. But right now, as exhausted as I am, I think I'll enjoy the ride. Please pray for The Next Door Bible Study as they learn to help minister and as they loose much time and fellowship with me to make room for others. I see their disappointment and I miss them as well. But I am proud of them for welcoming their new brothers and sisters. That is what I've been teaching them to do. Pray also for the little ones as they grow in their faith. We are making disciples. That's what we're called to do. To God be the glory!
In Christ,
Jamie

Spiritual Warfare

Thank you, God for all the blessing that flow! Praise Him, you creatures here below.

I was awakened this morning in real warfare with a sense of urgency that wouldn't stop. I prayed with just heartfelt cries to the Lord for my safety and protection. The dealers were to come to Bible study today. I felt as if God was telling me their motives were not good. I needed wisdom and safety immediately!

God brought to mind Psalm 23 which I am truly living out. Two sections stood out to me: verses 4 and 5, "Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest for me a table in the presence of mine enemies:Thou annointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over." and of course, I know goodness and mercy will follow me for God has been so good. God's righteousness and strength would protect me. I claimed these promises.

God has been overwhelming me with goodness and right in front of those who are my enemies. He has prepared a table for me, truly sending people from my church with food for me everyday! They have showered me with blessings and my enemies hate it and want to take my blessing from me! They hate me for how God has provided. It is in their face everyday and they want to control it or strip it from me. I called a friend after pleading God's Word for protection over me. She prayed my heart out to God as though she and I were one mind. Our hearts were in one accord. Then, God sent help. After putting in a call to the church for wisdom, one of my Bible study kids called to check on me and wanted to come fix lunch for me. She had to walk from home to do it but felt compelled to be with me. Then, God sent two women from my church to strengthen me and encourage me and who I knew would pray for me. My strength was returning.

One of my pastors called who had knowledge of the unseemly and began to question me about what these young men did when they came into my house, how they asked questions and what they said exactly and he confirmed that they were sizing me up for prey. They were finding out if I had money, checking my house for what they could steal and trying to intimidate me by telling me certain things. He instructed me on some real ways to keep myself safer. Some might have seemed simple to others but I can't think like my enemy. However, I need for God to give me some wisdom in these areas and I have asked for it. I asked for a fresh annointing. I have also asked for a love like I've never known to be able to consume me so that it reaches those I might never reach out to. One of my favorite songs is "Love Like Crazy." We have to. I have to. If I am to be usable God has got to break all my stereotypes and all my prejudices. I am not my own. Please pray that He accomplishes this in me, in us all.

The time came for Bible study, each young man and woman there knew that we might have company and they were determined to reach out in Christian love to these men, they even left to get extra chairs. My Pastor was here to give his testimony about the life he'd led prior to becoming saved. These men would've understood where he was coming from. They made it to the door-three of them from what I could see. One of my students opened the door for them and someone from their apartment called them back. They did not return as a very heavy rain began to fall. They did not return this night to this time, praise God! How I wished they would've heard the testimony, however, it surely was God's will that they didn't come tonight or they would've. There were too many saints praying for me to believe otherwise.

We had a wonderful time of exhorting one another and sharing. Some of the older met some of the new, younger kids and hung around to encourage them and get to know them. It was great! The older ones will be mixing CD's of Praise and Worship music for their new sisters and brothers. We agreed on times the kids would come and which days for safety's sake. We assured them this was not because they weren't wanted but for wisdom and they received it well, they chose the time to come. It was wonderful fellowship and encouragement. It was a forging of the group together. God is to be praised for how He works!

Thank you for praying and lifting up this group. I see God moving here and I see these kids growing. My absolute joy is to see them flourish in the Lord and to walk out the pages of the Bible and to carry God's message to others. It is NOT me, but God Almighty who is at work here. I am just a vessel. Pray that I am usable. Thank you again for your prayers.
In Christ,
Jamie

A Story in the Making

The Bible is full of many wonderful stories of forgiveness, grace, mercy and sometimes you just don't see it coming. The parable of the prodigal son, Abigail's rescue of Nabal and his death, so many stories! How about a King born to save the world who is born in a manger? God can spin a story like no one else.

I am living in an incredible time in my life, in my church, in my neighborhood. There is adventure and mystery, excitement and hair raising events. I know God is up there at His loom adding threads here and there, creating a living picture of Himself around and inside us. Right now in this ministry I see many things happening at once. Some are glorious and some give me very real reason for concern. I have no idea what God is doing but I know my role in it. Tell everyone I can that the Savior has risen and will be returning soon. It is my job to tell about the salvation of Jesus Christ and the life-changing, life-giving difference He makes and live it out before them to see.

God has put me in a very unique position of having to depend on Him. I must admit He is providing. He is giving time and comfort and love and my church is modeling what a church should be. People are watching. God is watching. When I couldn't go out, He brought people to me. Where I was afraid to go, He allowed them to come to my house. I must admit my life is interesting right now. I cannot hide. God has made me to be a light on a hill. My life is no longer mine but His. I must do what I am called to do. It is not a matter any longer of convenience but of urgency. I must do what it is He's called me to do.

Pray I would have the resolve of Daniel and his friends, of David facing Goliath, of Mordecai before Haman. That I would revere His name above the ability of His enemies to make me uncomfortable. God may not call me to this degree, but I need the readiness.

I am not a hero or some prophet of old, who were just real people by the way. Don't think I don't feel concern or wonder what I am to do. I know there is nothing but a door between me and the enemies of God. They've stared at it every day. Now they come in. No lock holds out my foe, My God holds my door shut! To get to me, they must come through Him. God is my shield and fortress! Pray He holds me. Pray this story has an ending of epic proportions, so great that we'd never see that coming....
In Christ,
Jamie

I wanna go to AWANA!

What a marvelous thing to be in Awana tonight! My first venture out since surgery. The kids met here, ate and played and then we loaded up the vans headed for church. They were awesome. The room was filled with 34 middle schoolers all for the purpose of learning God's word! Amazing!
I'm sure you are familiar with the scripture 2 Timothy 2:15 which says, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." That's exactly what AWANA is meant to do. It stands for "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed." These kids (and leaders) work hard to learn these verses to "hide thy word in my heart that I might not sin against Thee." Psalm119:11. That requires at times memorizing a paragraph of scripture in an unfamiliar version of English, then understand and be able to explain the meaning of it. We teach them how those passages apply to everyday life-theirs. It's all about studying the word of God. Tough job-great payoff. I am so glad to be a part of such a great program and privileged to be teaching these incredibly hard working kids.

While I thought on the verse of studying to shew ourselves approved, I came upon another verse. 1 Thessalonians 4:10b-12 "But we beseech you, brethren that you increase more and more; and that ye study to be quiet, and to do your business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing." Study of the word of God gives you a quiet spirit. A contentment and peace. A willing spirit comes from the study of God's goodness and grace. I'm not willing to buy what I'm not familiar with. I'm not willing to believe the word of someone I don't know. Ah, there we are! Do you know Him? If you don't, you can by accepting Jesus as your Savior. Then you continue to know Him better by reading His word.

Good works follow true believers in Christ. You become aware of people who don't know Him and of people who have not. Then you begin to minister out of the well of grace God has given you. We are His witnesses. God in return promises we will not lack. I know that to be true.

God can be tested. He's not afraid of you "trying out" His word. If you have faith as a mustard seed God says you can move a mountain. So, study the Bible today and see what God teaches you!
In Christ,
Jamie

Anchored in Grace

Grace and peace to you! I have to ask, do you have peace now? Are you resting in God's grace? I am more of a "doer" than a "rester", so God fixed that. With my current situation, I can do nothing but rest in the grace of God. I don't recommend having your foot turned the opposite way and then having surgery. However, God has used this situation to make sure I rest in His grace. And He has supplied my every need. My God has so moved on the hearts of people in my church and God-fearing friends that I am being taken care of.
I have had my frigidaire filled twice and Mom's taken stuff home to store. Almost every sweet soul who's brought food brought money, or an appliance I needed. My family has cleaned my house and yard. My Mother has about cleaned herself to death. And the kids are checking on me continually.
One specific prayer request was for a rolling walker. There was some money in my account from donations, not much left, and a rolling walker was expensive. There would be no way I could make rent and buy this walker. I needed both. Yesterday a couple from my church paid my rent and this morning some representatives brought me money from a Sunday School class almost the exact amount for the walker. The grandmother of a young man I'd ministered to, who has become a friend stopped by with groceries, fellowship and the balance needed for a walker with a seat. My God is awesome.
It can be a scary thing to trust the Lord for your needs. He is God and can do anything. Sometimes it is easier to trust Him to do something supernatural that than to work through the hearts of people, like a husband who is straying or a child who chooses the wrong path. But I can testify that God can move hearts AND hands AND captivate the heart of a loved one. You can trust Him. So, get in the word, pray and lift up those you care about to Him, tell of His goodness, praise Him with your words and your life and watch this mighty Father move on your behalf for His plan. What a rush to see what He will do next! It's the wildest ride you will ever experience. You'll need to be anchored in His grace to keep from being blown away by His blessings! Then in the days when it is hard to lift your head or your voice He will keep you afloat on an ocean of mercy with undeserved and unexpected grace.
There is a song I love that is sung by several artists, one is Jesus Culture and it's called "How He Loves Us". Here are some of the words, I hope you'll listen to it and let it minister to your spirit:
He is jealous for me,
Loves like a hurricane, I am the tree
bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy.
All of the sudden I am unaware of my afflictions
eclipsed by Glory,
And I realize just how beautiful He is
And the affections He has towards me.
And oh, how He loves us so,
Oh how He loves us,
How He loves us so.
May the God who is jealous for you, shower you with grace as you keep your eyes on the prize of Jesus Christ.
In Christ,
Jamie

Left Behind....

Tonight was pizza and a movie. I am certainly learning these middle schoolers and I can tell you it is a shame the things they have learned. It is honestly hard for me to believe the amount of work this group is going to take. They will certainly be a challenge. Their idea of discipline and mine are two different things even in my own home. It will be a tough love situation.

It was my hope they would be interested in a movie, they even got to pick and it was Left Behind. It was interesting to see the completeness of ignorance and lack of respect of the things of God in some of them. I am picking out the handful who are serious at this time. However, when The Next Door Bible Study began, there were those who dropped in from time to time to socialize and eat. A couple of them were serious after a while and one of those "drop ins" is on fire for Christ now and if you give him 3-5 minutes he's going to tell you about Jesus and his testimony. It is unreal how God changed this young man, a local church has just invited him to come and work with their high school ministry. Another young man earlier this week told his parents he was going to become engaged, asked her parent's permission and then came to tell me. I was so honored to have that place of importance. What an awesome thing. God took time to mold these kids, almost four years now. It will take time for this new group of children.

Please pray that these children would hear God's words through me. Pray that they would return again and again and again, even if it is for the snacks because God's word will not return void. It took twenty-two years for me though I wasn't discipled. It will take time for them, some longer than others and some, unfortunately, will never come to the saving knowledge of Christ and they will be left behind. But their lives will not be on my hands, for I will teach the gospel of Christ.

Thanks to all of you who have supported me and those who have prayed and supported these children. There is much to do and there is such short time in these last days. Even so, Lord Jesus, come.
In Christ,
Jamie

Pray My Friends, Pray

Today was an interesting day indeed. My younger ones, the Jr High kids came to see me. We pulled out beads, girls and boys were making bracelets and necklaces. We laughed and joked, studied some TREK verses and were just having a good time.

The doorbell rang and one girl said, "Ms. Jamie, there's some boys at the door who want to see you." I hadn't seen the look on her face before. I told her to invite them in. Another boy went to the door and told them I couldn't come to the door. I saw him speaking through a crack in the door, his behavior was odd. I told him to let them in. Four young men entered my apartment. They are the local drug dealers here. My friend and I had a run in with them earlier as we tried to give a Bible to one of the children.

One of the young men said, "Do you remember me?" I told him I did. He had dared me to have the courage to knock on his door and invite him to church that next Sunday. I told him I would, and I would have indeed had my leg not been broken rendering me unable to do so. He said, "You didn't come." I told him about my leg and asked him if he went without me. He said he didn't. I said, "You told me you would." He came up with the excuse that he didn't feel like walking. The church is not a block away. We just nodded at each other. I asked another of the young men if the situation we prayed about was better. He said it was.

As the four young men cased my apartment with their eyes I noticed that all the children were silent, playing with the beads with their heads down and eyes on the floor in front of them. A few more exchanges took place. One man asked what church I went to and I told him Green Acres Baptist. He nodded his head. They told me before they are familiar with it. I invited them to church and then to the Wednesday Bible Study and assured them we would feed them. They nodded. I asked them to excuse us to continue to study our verses and they did so.

As soon as the door closed the kids jumped up to lock it. They were all talking at once and completely terrified! Each one told me what they had experienced with this group. There were stories of the girls being harrassed as the walked to the bus stop, and just out of their doors. The boys talked about how they'd been threatened and questioned about gang membership. I felt the worst for the biggest boy there. I could tell that he felt a responsibility for the group, but he is just a boy of fourteen. He told me, "They almost jumped me and my cousin left me. I was scared. But if I have to fight I have to fight." They told me of the drugs they'd seen the boys do and told me they were "crazy".

I settled them down and we all gathered hands and prayed for our protection, for the young men's turning of heart and salvation, and for God to move them out if they wouldn't repent. When we finished the prayer, I asked if they prayed at home. They all said they did. I asked them if they talked to God like they did to me and each other. This was new to them. I assured them that they could talk to God like their best friend. We all settled down and agreed they should come tomorrow for pizza and a movie.

Sometimes we think God is blessing us and helping us just to show is His love. I can tell you God is providing for me to love and nurture and disciple these kids. My heart is already knit with theirs and they are so very precious to me. To see them silent with their heads down in fear gripped me with a love and and concern for them at a depth that surprised me. I didn't realize that I loved them that much already. I thought about how many children are trapped in their situations and cannot escape because they have no way out. They may have no way out, but God can move in this apartment complex like He moved into the prison with Paul and Silas and He can break the chains that bind these little ones too!

Pray for these and other children in other homes and countries where kids are trapped by war and cruel leaders where their lives are nothing.
Oh, if God loves the sparrows and sees each one fall, surely He loves them more. Oh that God would move and set them free! Pray for His mercy and protection and for the souls of the lost. It is not flesh with which we war but "against principalities against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenlies". Eph6:12. I know that to be true. We are at war, it is at your very door just as it is at mine. Be sure of that. We must pray!

Jamie

Back In The Day...

What a wonderful day! The Next Door Bible Study met today and it was a pleasure as always to gather around the Word of God. If you have never joined a group for serious study I encourage you to. We exhort and encourage each other to get into the mindset of the text and to try to understand what these real people, God's saints and chosen, heard, smelled, felt and learned as they followed the I Am.

We studied Genesis 17 today. Abram and Sarai got new names today. They became Abraham and Sarah, the father and mother of nations, yet they had no children. We learned about the covenant God cut with Abraham and circumcision, Israel's responsibility of an outward symbol to identify themselves with their God. We compared this to the Baptism which is our outward way of identifying with our Savior.

I am so glad that God requires no more sacrifices such as circumcision.

We did discuss, however, the fact that God in the form of Jesus does bear painful marks for us, the nail prints. He also, according to Revelations, bears the marks of our names on His hands once we belong to Him.

We cost Jesus something in the form of suffering yet He wears us, our names, in the palms of His hands.

How I praise God for this!

We had a new young lady come today who is new to the neighborhood. She was welcomed and just fit like a puzzle piece. It wasn't long before she was answering questions from the text along with the others. We dug deep today into God's Truth and she said she enjoyed it! Praise God!

The younger kids were a little put out because in this particular group we don't allow anyone under 14 and they must be a mature 14 because we do discuss some real situations. Today's lesson required some explanation for some. I was never so glad that I stuck to this rule. I am happy that these kids want to understand the Word and what God was doing.

Tomorrow the younger kids and I will make salvation bracelets. They also want to do a "makeup" day. I thank God for these precious younger ones. One of the senior members of the Bible Study was watching the kids be kids. She just shook her head at them and commented on how they were loud, ate too much and were all over the apartment.

When I asked her if the scene looked familiar she shook her head. I said, "What about your first year at Bible Study?" She just smiled broadly and watched them play. These young ones are the next generation of the Next Door Bible Study-God willing. I am so thankful the Father has placed them in my home and in my life. Please pray that I will be a blessing and a help as we begin to organize and educate these little ones.

To God be the glory!

Abounding, Astounding, My God!

It is so good to be held in the Mercy of the Savior! I am so very glad to be able to post this blog. The surgery went well and though I am not going to be able to minister as I had planned, God has me in the unique position of being ministered to by those whom I have ministered. I can honestly say I didn't see that coming.

Since the day I came home from surgery my neighborhood has witnessed my church bringing food and visiting. My church and my family has seen precious children from six years of age to fourteen come and visit. They come in for a snack and a smile. They touch my cast and ask if it hurts. They raid the candy bowl and play Yahtzee. They borrow movies and tell me about their day at school. The first day of AWANA at my church was yesterday, they nearly beat the door in to tell me about it. My Mother was stunned as the little living room filled with children. My church was OVERRUN by the number of kids that showed up. Every plan was scrapped as God brought so many in our nets were breaking. Praise God, I couldn't have been happier!

I am reminded of the Twenty-third Psalm, "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want..." Every, and I mean every, need I've had has been met so far through the generosity of my family, friends and church. I have had to send some food home with my Mom, the kids have plenty of snacks, my church paid for the materials to build a ramp and a man Baptized this Sunday built it for me in one day. My Mother has cleaned my apartment and she and my sister rearranged everything so I could reach things. People have given money as generously as the could because I cannot work for many months to come. I could go on and on.

God is faithful and true. He does not forget His children and through this injury He has provided for all. My needs are met, His Gospel is taught, the church is edified and encouraged by the fruit of our labor. Folks, this is it! We are seeing our Mighty God move! A bunch of folks who love Jesus got together to talk about Him, praise Him and tell kids and adults about Him and this is what happened. All I can do is watch and appreciate and adore Him. If that doesn't make you smile, I don't know what will.

Stay tuned, God is not finished. I can hardly wait to tell you what He will do in the coming days. I can't wait to tell you how He's working in the lives of the people in my church, the Next Door Bible Study and King's Kids. "O Give thanks to the Lord for He is good and His mercy endures forever!" Amen.

First Day After Surgery

Jamie's computer is temporarily down so she asked me (Amy Trosen) to write a little update on her situation. You can just never predict God's plan, can you? Jamie began thinking in earnest a couple weeks ago that God might be moving her into full time ministry. What was the first event in that plan? She broke her leg down at the ankle. Not just a simple break either. She had surgery the day before yesterday to anchor her foot back to her leg, a procedure requiring two plates and six screws.

After surgery she was released to recover at home so yesterday I got to stay with her for 24 hours straight. She had a steady stream of visitors and phone calls from 9AM until 9PM, and that was a good thing. The company kept her mind off her pain.

Yesterday was an eye-opening experience for me. I got a glimpse of her ministry, and friends, let me tell you, she has quite a ministry! Kids from her home Bible Study group stopped by to share a word of comfort with their teacher. A lady across the street stopped in to ask for prayer, to which Jamie stopped everything to minister the Word to her and to pray with her.

During our brief moments alone in between visitors, Jamie shared her heart and I came to feel her compassion for the lost and lonely people in her world. I have known Jamie for several years and I knew she ministered, but until yesterday I hadn't a clue as to the breadth of her influence on the people God brings across her path. She is a teacher of God's Word. She proclaims the gospel message boldly and effectively.

The doctor has ordered Jamie to put no weight on her leg for 10 to 12 weeks. Non-weight bearing for almost three months. What will that do to her ministry?

Before we went to bed last night, she remembered a verse from a recent sermon her pastor had preached:

I know your works. See I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, and you have kept My word, and have not denied My name. (Rev. 3:8 NKJV)

"This is true," she said, and then she went on to tell me that if God has opened this door for ministry, nothing can shut that door until she has walked through it... not even a broken leg.

So many, many people have donated in the past couple of days to keep her ministry alive. Jamie asked me to thank you. Your generosity has been such an encouragement to her. She has much to tell you and can hardly wait until her computer is back on line so she can post about what the Lord is doing. In the meantime, please pray:

•for her speedy recovery
•for the Lord to bring to her house those he wants her to minister to
•for a new sense of nearness to Jesus
•for a fresh understanding of His Word

I'll close with a paraphrase (as best as I can remember it) from a note she got from a friend at church who lives in her neighborhood. "Don't get discouraged. In due time God will reward your labor." That goes for you too. God rewards all labor done for His Son's sake. Thank you, dear friends, for all you do for Him.

In Christ,

Amy

Remember Who You Are and Who You've Been

Surgery Day!!!

Once, about a year ago now, a young man began coming to The Next Door Bible Study. He was invited by a friend. Soon after, these two young men were involved in an altercation that almost cost both of them their lives. In fact, one young man was hit in the head with an axe. He was fine after a stay in the hospital and stitches. We made a visit to his home. God supernaturally supplied his need for food through our group. He apologized as soon as we walked up for his home and the fact that people were smoking. As we entered his house, beers went behind chairs, and the sarcastic grins appeared. They warned us about his mother. Too late! She got up, drunk, cussed us all out and retreated to the bedroom just in time for the police to arrive to see what everyone was doing there. We decided to leave. We made sure he had his birthday gift of a Bible. Then he and his pregnant girlfriend were thrown out of the house.

There was so much happening at once you could scarcely take it all in. The kids were awesome and never flinched. They stood by this young man and his girlfriend. I remember being afraid for them and questioning if I was right for this ministry. Maybe God intended for it to be a man. I remember that I had forgotten what it was to be lost and have the absence of Peace. They had no peace and no hope. They were miserable.

The Bible tells us in Ephesians 2:1,5 that we were dead in our trespasses and sins but we were made alive in Christ. We WERE DEAD. You can't get clearer than that. These people were dead and I had been also. I suddenly remembered with clarity what my home was like before I knew Jesus. The opposite of what I had now even though I lived alone. I remember the fear and embarrassment in their eyes.

That moment I realized the importance of not forgetting where we came from. We are lavished with gifts from God but they are not to keep as our own. We are to share everything so that no one in the body has a need. Even our rights and our wills we are to surrender, how much more our possessions! If you cannot remember what it is to want and to need, friends you have too much. If your children cannot understand that they are blessed and have pity on those who are poor you do them a serious disservice. They have too much and THEY will be the poorer for it!

Sure signs of our downfall is that our love for one another will wax cold and we will forget the poor! It is not the governments' job, but ours to have charity or love. It is an action not an emotion. The complexes we will be going into are full of sweet people who need encouragement and fellowship. However, there will be some, and we have met some already, who are without Peace. They are angry and abandoned and without hope. They can be dangerous. So was I. They are the walking dead and without Jesus they will perish forever.

If you do not know Jesus, please know that you are that person. You need a Savior because your sin has come before a Holy God and He cannot tolerate it as the perfect Judge. Something has to die in your place. Jesus did that for you. He died for you so that you might live and He rose again to conquer that death so you can live forever, if you believe that He did this for you. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. All of us have to surrender to Jesus' authority by praying for forgiveness of sins and to make Jesus the King of our lives. Do this today and then tell someone you did. Then read your Bible and find a church where they actually use the Bible. If you need help, contact us. Jesus loves you, He wants to save you. I pray you will.

In Christ,
Jamie
